“Drama is a fantastic medium and is accessible to children from all backgrounds and abilities.”

Frances – Where it all started…

Frances graduated from Liverpool University in 1990 with a degree in English Literature. After working in a number of different industries, she decided to become a teacher and, after taking her P.G.C.E. in secondary education, took up her first teaching post as an English and Drama teacher. However, Frances soon discovered a real passion for Drama teaching. She realised that the benefits, for the children, of following a Drama course were fantastic. She loved helping to nurture children’s self-confidence, communication and presentational skills and, above all, seeing them have fun!

Having been responsible for the direction and production of the annual school musicals and introducing Drama as a G.C.S.E option within her school, soon after, Frances became Head of Drama at North Cestrian Grammar school in Altrincham and she has never looked back. It became clear to her that Drama was a subject she both enjoyed and loved. She was soon running her own academy and, within three years, Frances had over two hundred children attending her classes. Her academy is a huge success and continues to thrive and develop.

In 2017, ‘The Wake Up Drama Academy’ was born! Her main motivation is now the training of young people in the art of acting for both stage and screen and she loves her new academy. ‘Owning my own business has been the best thing I have ever done,’ she says, ‘and I wouldn’t change it for the world! It is fantastic to see young people developing their self-confidence and self-belief. Drama is a fantastic medium and is accessible to children from all backgrounds and abilities. Any child with an interest in Drama and acting, or who just wants to develop their confidence and meet new friends, can start here!’
